e-Message from Rick Wagoner
GM is breaking new ground in the
e–business arena. The combining of GM's, Ford's, and DaimlerChrysler's efforts create
an opportunity to develop the largest virtual marketplace, while
helping our supply base. This move is clearly another example of how GM is aggressively
leveraging the Internet to transform the way we do business.
Following is a letter to employees from Harold Kutner, our
group vice president of GM Worldwide Purchasing, which
provides the details of the announcement. I personally want to
encourage you to read Harold's comments and feel good about
the progress that our company is making.
Dear GM Team Member,
I am very pleased to tell you that GM, Ford and
DaimlerChrysler are announcing today plans to combine their
efforts to form a business-to-business integrated supplier
exchange through a single global portal. This venture will
create the world's largest virtual marketplace. As you can
imagine, this is exciting news for the entire automotive
industry.
There's no question that we can compete effectively in the
e-world. We have proven that. However, we realized that we
were quickly approaching the point where our supply partners
would either have to choose a system or duplicate their
processes to participate. And that is not the way to fully
leverage the exchange. So, in an unprecedented move, GM, Ford
and DaimlerChrysler came together to form this venture,
creating the largest internet business ever. And it came
together fast. Nobody will be better. Nobody will be faster.
Nobody will offer more to everyone involved.
